Foundation Stage

Children need a secure and stimulating environment, caring adults to encourage them and friends of their own age with whom they can play. At The English School our Foundation Stage which includes Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Reception, provides that safe, secure and nurturing environment where your child can develop in the care of professional qualified staff.

The Foundation Stage operates under the umbrella of the Pre-preparatory school. It is a happy and lively department in which caring teachers cater to individual needs and stages of development. The strongest possible links with home are fostered, and there are plenty of opportunities for learning.

During each day children have opportunities for structured play activities, practical art and craft, small and large construction and games. Children learn socialising skills through interaction with other children and adults. Opportunities are created for each child to expand their world through imagination and play.

Activities are directly related to the English National Curriculum Foundation Stage. In Reception, when children are aged 4-5 intellectual growth develops from activities such as sharing stories and discussion, writing, number games, observation and scientific experiences as well as technology, craft and design, painting, imaginative play, music and singing.
