Pastoral
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT A close relationship between home and school
benefits pupils, staff and parents and parental involvement is encouraged.
A Parents' Association is active throughout the year and membership
is open to all parents of The English School. The Parents' Association
Coffee Room is situated in the School where parents can meet and chat
over a cup of coffee. We have formal occasions when parents are invited
to see classes in action, work on display and to discuss their children's
progress.
PASTORAL CARE
A pastoral curriculum seeks to address the needs of pupils throughout the School in order that they function effectively as members of a social group. As pupils grow and seek to establish their own identity, relationship problems will occur. The staff are aware of these situations and help pupils deal with them constructively. The Class Teachers and Senior Tutors are also concerned to view the 'whole child' and manage his or her performance across both the academic and informal curricula ensuring that they are performing to their potential. They will liaise on the child's behalf with other staff and parents to try to ensure happy, socially integrated and successful students.
Parents are encouraged to contact their child's Class Teacher (Infant and Junior) or Senior Tutor whenever necessary to discuss any matters (social, academic or physical) that concern them.
HOUSE SYSTEM
Each child is attached to a House: Balmoral, Buckingham, Sandringham or Windsor. Managing each house is a member of the staff chosen for his or her ability to provide counselling and support to pupils and liaison with parents, in order to smooth the passage of pupils through the School and help them take full advantage of all the School has to offer.
One of the aims of the House System is to maximise opportunities at all ages for
the development of self-confidence, community spirit and leadership ability.
