On 2nd December Year 8 students took part in their Pinewood Derby. Students were given the design brief during DT lessons. They had to design a wooden car to travel as fast as possible down a purpose built aluminium track, with a decorative design theme of their choice. The project made students think about forces of air resistance and friction involved in slowing the car down, and they designed a shape to try to minimise these forces. Once completed, each car added weights to bring the car’s mass to 141g to make it a fair race.
The overall winners were:
1st: Imaan Khan - IPod
2nd: Mazzy Cheney – Blue Green Sea
3rd: Emaani Francis – Minion Rush
Best design: Pia Abdou – Ratatouille
